This species is accepted. Endemic to Rwanda. The native range of this species is SW. Rwanda. It is a perennial or helophyte and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome.
Nymphaea thermarum, also known as the Rwandan Miniature water lily, is the world's smallest water lily. It is characterized by tiny, bright green lily pads (leaves) that can be as small as 1 cm in diameter. Native to Rwanda, it was once thought to be extinct and previously listed as Extinct in the Wild by the IUCN due to habitat destruction. It was rediscovered by a team of international scientists close ot the original location in 2023.
