The East African Herbarium (EA), located in Nairobi, Kenya, is one of the most important botanical research institutions in Africa. Established in 1903, it is housed within the National Museums of Kenya and serves as the region’s primary repository for plant specimens, with a collection of over 1 million preserved samples from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, and surrounding areas. The herbarium plays a critical role in plant taxonomy, biodiversity research, conservation, and education, supporting scientists, students, and environmental managers. It also collaborates with international herbaria and botanical networks, contributing to global knowledge on East African flora and the preservation of endangered plant species.
