Rare Plant Seed Bank (UR-NHR-SB)

Housed at the National Herbarium of Rwanda within the University of Rwanda, the Rwanda Seed Bank is dedicated to protecting the country’s rich plant heritage. Its mission is to conserve seeds from Rwanda’s indigenous endangered plant species—ensuring they remain available for future use in agriculture, research, and environmental restoration. The seed bank supports food security and climate resilience by maintaining plant genetic diversity essential for conservation and restoration It also serves as a hub for education, research, and collaboration, working closely with local communities, scientists, and policymakers to promote sustainable land use and biodiversity conservation throughout Rwanda.
